Is it fair to say that people who try to be nice and respectful?

are walk all over on. It seem that being respectful and not throwing people under the bus is look down upon. I'm not advocating saying exactly what is on your mind all the time but i'm tried of biting my tongue because i don't want to disrespect someone. I'm trying to advance my career and i think my main barrier to success is trying not to hurt someone feelings who is willing to stab me in the back.
